  1. In Hinduism, the creator of the cosmos, who
  2. forms with Vishnu and Siva the Trimurti, or
  3. three aspects of the absolute spirit. In the
  4. Hindu creation myth, Brahma, the demiurge, is
  5. born from the unfolding lotus flower that
  6. grows out of Vishnu's navel; after Brahma
  7. creates the world, Vishnu wakes and governs
  8. it for the duration of the cosmic cycle
  9. kalpa, the 'day of Brahma', which lasts for
  10. 4,200 million earthly years. Unlike Brahman,
  11. which is an impersonal principle and of
  12. neuter gender, Brahma is a personified god
  13. and of masculine gender.
